Stains on steps

I have this brown staining on my steps I can only lighten it, not remove it with heavy scrubbing with a green pad. What do I need to do to remove them?

First determine whether they are from metal staining or organic. Crush up some Vit C tablets and put in a sock and lay it on the steps. If it lightens and removes the stains it is metals and you'll have to perform an AA treatment. If it's organic in nature, a trichlor puck will lighten it when you rub it or set it on the steps.

So they are metal. I have some AA what is the best way to spot treat the steps without messing up the chemistry. It's bad enough we are going to get heavy rain and possible flooding tomorrow.

Put that AA in a porous bag (plllow case?) of some sort and set it onto the steps. It may remove the stain in just a few minutes.

I used the AA in a sock to remove the stains with great success. Now the stains are reappearing I cant keep doing the AA in a sock every 2 weeks, how do I stop this?

Metals are like chocolate. Sequestrants are the hard candy shell on an M&M. Do you see chocolate in a bag of M&Ms? No. But it's in there. Just wait for that shell to get dissolved and you'll find lots of chocolate in the bag.
