want to convert to a saltwater system

We just bought a house with a pool, the pool was running last summer per the previous owner and the neighbors. It is currently a green pond and we are getting ready to start cleaning it and getting it running. We would really like to convert to a salt water system. The filter and pump are 25 years old but well maintained, Hayward S200 it says baquacil on it but none of the pool supplies are for baquacil all of it is for a chlorine system. Is there any issue with this filter being used with a salt water system?

Welcome to TFP!!!

The first thing you are going to need to do is invest in one of the Recommended Test Kits, preferably the TF-100 with XL since you said the water is green and thus you will need to follow the SLAM Process. If it was a Baq pool, the start-up is the same by going through the SLAM process to convert to chlorine.

After getting the SLAM mostly done, you can inspect the sand to see if it is all gummed up from a Baq conversion. If it is, you will need to replace the sand. If it is not, then you are golden to finish the SLAM.

After everything is clear and balanced, then you can work on adding the salt and firing up a SWG.
