Ok is there any chart on the effect of sunlight on chlorine. I have an above ground Intex 18x48 about 7500 gallons. My CYA is 40. How quickly at this level does sunlight burn off the bleach added?
Thanks for the info. Pool is cloudy and am shocking it right now. Was just wondering how much would be lost due to sunlight. Its been sunny daily here with temps in the mid 80's.
Well, at the higher SLAM FC levels, you will still lose the same %, but it will be more ppm than the normal 2-3ppm.
With a SLAM level of 16ppm, I would expect you to lose 6-8ppm just to the sun, not counting what is lost to organics in the pool.
If the water is in the 80s, you would lose roughly 60% of your starting FC level over the course of a sunny day. Presumably the water is colder than that, so less. That is a rough approximation. The actual percentage varies a great deal depending on several different factors, so it is difficult to make a chart.
