My main drain plumbing was done today. The rebar is right on top of the PVC. Is this ok? Shouldn't the pipe be further under ground so that the rebar is fully encased in concrete?
You want a bare minimum of 1" of clearance around any rebar and pipe. I would want closer to 2" but wouldn't be comfortable with less then an inch. You want the aggregate to be able to travel between the pipe and the reinforcing steel.
Thanks for the quick response, heavyweight. Do you think there should be a trench dug out below the main drains & associated plumbing in order to get then an inch or two deeper?
I don't see why they couldn't, but if they have the wiggle room in the concrete grade they can just raise the rebar an ibit and not have to mess with the plumbing since it is in place already.
