PVC plumbing size for small pump/filter combo

I purchased a Hayward vl40t32 pump filter combo for my 18'x48" summer escapes pool. I would like to plumb it in PVC but it didn't come with the appropriate adapter so I am making one to fit. The best option I have is 1.25" union to attach to the suction side of the pump. I am wondering if it would be worth it to run 1.5" plumbing to and from the pump and reduce it down just before my adapter or to just plumb it in with 1.25" on both sides. The pump has a flow rate of 30 gpm and I'm not sure if it will make much difference on that small of a pump over the short(~6' each way) run of plumbing. I've reviewed hydraulics 101, but I can't seem to noodle this one out. :?
Thanks,
Ky
