Hayward DE4820 filter fitting question

I am a new pool owner and identified that our filter did not work so I went to purchase a new filter system. Here is my problem. I have an older system with PVC fittings and when I got home to install the filter I came across a bulkhead fitting that I cannot find an adapter for. My options are to buy a 2 position slide valve for $90 or a Vera-flo valve for $149. Ok I guess I can do that but I already have a 2 position valve installed and a backwash drain valve to the sewer.
Is there some type of adaptor for the larger end of the bulkhead fitting. I tried local hardware stores but nothing fits.

Likely the fittings are proprietary. Usually a backwash valve is bought with the filter.
Did you switch filter brands from the old to the new? That would explain why the old valve does not fit on the new filter.
