32 diameter, AG approx. 26,000 gal w/ sand filter
Our pool cover ripped over the winter and there is a lot of debris (fine silt to very small leaves) on the bottom of the pool. The water was surprisingly clear at the time of opening, the bottom just looked more like a pond than a pool. Of course, we knew what we were in for and we procrastinated opening the pool (too long). We uncovered it on Saturday, and started filling it so that we could vacuum (waste out, not filter). We are basically unable to vacuum. It clogs the impeller of the pump within 10 minutes, even with cleaning out the basket. By the time the pump basket is full (less than 10 minutes), the impeller is already clogged. We tried skimming/sweeping the bottom, and were able to net only very small amounts. At the rate we can make progress this way, we will never be able to get the bottom clear. We need to take the pump apart in order to clear the clog each time. We don't know what to do. We cannot spend the money to pay a pool company to come a clean it.
At this point, water chemistry isn't even a consideration. Because we are pumping out to waste and bypassing the filter, we haven't begun to treat the water.
