I opened up the 'newly' installed pool heater to follow the steps in the troubleshooting section of the manual to find that the product label had been cut off and all of the product information was gone. Make, Model, Serial#, gas requirements.... everything. Is it legal to sell a heater with all of this information missing and the label deliberately cut off?

If it was sold as a new with factory warranty unit, then it's probably not legal to have the data plate altered.
I'd contact whoever sold it to you and see what's going on.

They haven't made ED2's for a while now. I'm guessing this unit is maybe "new" to you but it is used?
