Aerating TA

All the posts and articles I am reading about TA uses acid and aeration to lower the levels.
I shocked my pool with trichlor and am adding CYA, both of which lower the pH. I am aerating via aiming the return jets upward - plus my pool gets maybe 4-5 hours of GA sun per day.

Is aerating a low pH enough to lower TA? Or is the TA specifically related to the muratic acid?

TA only goes down when you lower the pH.

Aerating only raises the pH ... so that then you can lower it again and get the TA to go down as well.

Ok. So trichlor and CYA are both effective at lowering TA?

I am not sure I would say "effective" as they do not lower the pH nearly as much and as quickly as MA, but they should help.

Just keep a sharp eye on your CYA level...Trichlor adds CYA, which if it creeps above 80 ppm could cause issues.

Pool is good and shocked now and the FC/TC/CC numbers are at target level. CYA is about 40ppm too low. I added 10lbs CYA Saturday and was advised to wait 6 days before adding more.
