I am a new pool owner and I have never had any type of pool maintenance experience in my life, that being said, I need some serious help and the pool guy as well as the pool specialist store have not been able to help me. I have done exactly what they said and there is still algae, so here's the background..I just recently bought a house with a pool and had a new liner put in and basically a whole brand new pool in general. Put the water in and have had problems ever since. I have a salt water pool and it is about 18,000 gallons, a grecian 16x32 pool. Ever since we opened it, it has been cloudy looking with a green tint to it, the water has definitely not been crystal clear. When we opened it we put all the chemicals in it..shock, baking soda, stabilizer and so on. However, about 4 days after we opened it, a dirt like substance started showing up. My husband and I, being newcomers to pools, didn't think anything of it and just vacuumed it up on "filter." Within the next day, it had reappeared and we still thought nothing of it but we upset about the pool water still being greenish and cloudy, so we took our water to the pool store to get it tested. The woman tested our water and it was totally fine, the chemical levels were almost perfect. Then, we mentioned something about the dirt and she immediately told us it was algae and that's why it had returned and that could cause the water to be discolored and off-looking. From there, we got more shock and algaecide to put in (this was about a week ago). So when I got home I put shock in and then the algaecide (which I mixed with four gallons of water as told by the pool specialist, and then put in the pool - next time should I mix with water first or just put in?) and waited 24 hours for the algae to die. 24 hours later.. I walked out and vacuumed up the supposedly "dead" algae off of the bottom. Then, my pool water was looking pretty good! Within the next 2 days, once again, did I have dirt-like algae on the bottom again. I took my pool water back to be tested and it came back perfect again, perfect chemical levels. I then tested my water with a test kit and it was perfect as well. I also vacuumed it at least 3 more times. Today, a week later, the algae is still there, the pool water is still green and cloudy, and I am just lost. The pool store is obviously not helping me and I just don't know what to do. I have more algaecide but haven't put it in yet because I feel like I need better and more proper directions.
** The thing that I don't understand is that usually, when a pool has algae, the chlorine level has dropped, or some of the chemicals are off, too low or too high, however, I have had mine tested at different places at least 4 different times in the past 2 weeks and they came back perfect..so what the heck am I doing wrong and why do I have algae? I shouldn't have to vacuum my pool out every single day.
All I really need is some real advice, none of this bull Crud the pool store has fed me that hasn't work, am I doing something wrong? how do I get this algae out and this pool to normal so that I can finally feel comfortable swimming in it? It's extremely frustrating, someone please please please help me! I am absolutely desperate.
