There are two problems that my husband and I have noticed in our pool this summer:
1. Yellow stains have appeared on our white stairs. I bought some Vitamin C tablets at Walmart and they took the yellow stain off. I read pool school and understand that I need to buy about 2 pounds of ascorbic acid, lower my chlorine level to zero, etc. etc....but, can I wait until the weather gets cooler to do this? I have family coming over to swim this Sunday. Is it going to harm anything by putting this off for a few months/winter? My biggest fear is getting algae. Here in Texas we are in the triple digits!!! I'm keeping my FC at 10 just to be on the safe side (CYA is about 60). I'm terrified to drop my chlorine to zero!!
**For those interested, I have attached a pdf file/link of our city's water report from last year. Even though Chemistry was my minor in college, it was never my strong point, I hated it! It looks like we might have copper in our city water, but it's hard for me to tell... http://tx-wichitafalls.civicplus.com/do ... 202010.PDF
2. My husband and I are both tasting SALT in our pool??? I do NOT have a SWG, so I have no idea why we are tasting salt, but my pool water is very salty. I use 6% sodium chloride (bleach) to sanitize the pool...is it possible for the sodium in the bleach to have built up to such high levels that we can both taste it?
Thank you all for your help/advice. I really appreciate it!
