Hello,

I currently have a single speed 1.5 hp pump. My pool is 36' long, 9' wide, but there are steps on the last 1/3rd of the pool that make it 13' wide. The deep end is 6' deep and the shallow end is 3' deep.

I was interested in the IntelliFlow 3 hp pump because it came recommended from online forums, but the local stores can't source one and there is no ETA.

The installer offered the alternative of going to the 1.5 hp unit instead, still VS.

Based on the documents I found online, it looks like the lowest speed on the 1.5 hp is 1400 rpm, while the 3 hp unit would be running at 750 rpm.

I'm interested in knowing if I should hold out for the 3 hp since it sounds more efficient at lower speeds where it would be running most of the time. My pool isn't very big, so I assume either one would be fine for it. I just don't know if the higher hp unit is more durable, last longer, more efficient to overcome the price difference, etc.

The price difference from the installer is $1700 (3hp) vs $1100 (1.5hp). I've found cheaper pricing online but there is only a 90 day warranty if I bought online.

I have a T9 salt cell. I'm thinking about getting a SQ150VS, but I'm still getting estimates right now.

I currently have a 1.5 hp single speed pump. And I just replaced my suction side cleaner with the Dolphin E30.

Intelliflo VSF is $1550’ish online, so I’d be real curious what specifically your installer is offering for $1700.

From what I can tell, Pentair offers 90 day warranty if you buy it online. And the installer's pricing is what he's buying it for - he doesn't sell pumps, he's just installing.

I'm in the Tampa, FL area, if anyone has a good local shop recommendation. The other companies in the area who I called are asking $2100 range for the pump, then $160 or so for install on top. So $1700 is already $400 cheaper.

I just re-read their warranty, it sounds like I can buy it online and then get the full warranty by having someone else install it. Does that sound right? The guy doing the install runs a pool company, they mostly service pools but they do installs of pumps and stuff.

Do you have any automation? If not you can get a 3hp vs pump on the cheap but it can only be set to run at certain times and no automation other than the internal timer.. :)
