Hi all,
This is our second summer in our new (to us) home, bought in fall 2022.
For starters this forum has been amazing for several reasons. I didn’t even create an account until now, mostly due to to just being able to read without one. What I have read made things so simple.
Upon home purchase we inherited a slightly cloudy pool. ~36,000 gallons with saltwater generator, chlorinator, sand filter and huge bins full of leftover chemicals.
Before stepping foot in a pool store i stumbled upon this forum and within a week or so learned about slam. Not knowing what was making it cloudy, i bought a taylor kit, tested and slammed it. Worked perfectly, and i closed the pool later that fall.
Last spring I opened it to a surprisingly clean pool that quickly went green. Tested and slammed again and everything went great last year. I ised some tabs in the chlorinator when we went away.
We installed an electric cover fall 23, before closing.

This year has been clear as can be, however I am losing CYA somehow. All through last year I was sitting at around 60-70 CYA all year. I drained a bit of the pool over winter and added water upon opening. First test this spring 0 CYA. I added 5lb Dry CYA in sock/bag hanging in front of skimmer (from Lowe’s) still no reading, added 5 more lbs, still nothing, but pool has been crystal clear.
Obviously the FC started getting eaten up quickly and I was adding more than I did last year and it got tiring adding so much liquid.
So I took my water to the pool store. I know, I know.
They also showed 0-5 CYA, I added 10 more lbs. two weeks ago and I’m still showing 0 CYA on the Taylor test.
Pool is crystal clear. What in the world could be causing this?
As always I appreciate this entire forum and I sometimes just read just for the heck of it. But I’m stumped now with this one.
