We tried to clean out pump strainer basket, but water gushed everywhere when we took the lid off!!! Did we forget to do something? BTW, the pump wasn't running.
Thanks
If the pump is below the water level, as it almost always is with an above ground pool, you need to close off the skimmer and return, especially the skimmer, before opening up the pump. Often there are valves for the purpose. If you don't have valves, you can rig something, like putting a tennis ball in the skimmer, to block enough of the water flow to allow you to clean out the strainer basket.
Hello, in the filter where the pump connects there should be a check valve that only opens in one direction(with the pump on). these check valves should be replaced every 2-3 years. Second if your filter doesn't have a check valve, make sure your multi-port valve is closed. winterized postion(i think) whichever position keeps the drains and returns closed. Hope this helps. :-D
