I'm assuming you're talking about the faucet. It is used to pressure test your pipes.

You can also use it to slowly drain your pool.

Sorry apparently I asked the question wrong. We started the pump that we recently moved and we were not able to draw water up the pipe to the pump at all - can we use the faucet to help bring the water up to the pump, then turn it off so we don't actually start draining the pool? I hope that makes sense.

Nevermind, we got it working now. Got a bit of work to do now to clean up the water.

That hose bib will come in very handy should you need to drain water out for any reason. The flow won't be quite as extreme as the backflush port. If Calcium gets scary high, which it likely will in Temecula, you can use it to water the lawn, then refill using fresh water.
