Booster pumps are used to "power" most pressure side pool cleaners. The booster pump produces a very high pressure and low flow rate stream of water that is used by the pool cleaner to move around the pool and blow debris into their debris bags. Only pressure side pool cleaners designed for use with a booster pump require a booster pump. Nothing else would make use of one. There are several other kinds of pool cleaners that don't use booster pumps.
