Ancient heater problem! What, no hot tub on Christmas!?!?

Hi all, this is on behalf of my dad in Baton Rouge, LA.

He has a very old gas heater that won't ignite anymore. It has a nameplate that says "Laars Lite", it's about a 3' cube, and probably 28 years old. He can smell gas when turning it on, but no ignition. He thinks it is the ignitor, and that sounds reasonable to me, but I don't know anything about gas heaters.

Any better ideas out there? Would the parts even still be available? Thanks for any input.

Laars was bought by Jandy. It's pretty likely that parts are available. I doubt it's quite that old though. If you can get a picture of the insides, it will help us.
