Yes, it works. I have one and it's been working fine. There's a thread about upgrading the tubing to 3/8" and if you get one you'll definitely want to do that. I've had one of the float valves to break but that's the only thing I've had a problem with.
There are several places to get them. Several posters here sell them. Pool and spa warehouse has them as well as Pool service tech. Take a stroll through "supporters only specials" and contact a few of them.
Something better is subjective. What's better for me may not be better for you. There are a lot of different ways of doing it.
SWCG's.
Liquidator.
Peristaltic Pump & Tank Feeders.
etc.
None are better or worse than the others it's what your preference is. My preference is the LQ or the perstaltic pump though I may consider a SWCG but replacing the cell every few years isn't within my tolerance yet.
