I know that there are many questions regarding how to maintain an FC target level while on vacation, but I wanted to ask particular questions of my own. Below is what I intend to do from reading other threads... do these sound okay or should there be something else I should be doing

  1. I intend to bring my FC to shock level for a CYA of 50
  2. I intend to keep my pump running for 24hours
  3. I intend to add 10-12 tabs (1") into the chlorinator (feeder) and set the dial to 4
  4. I intend to cover the pool while on vacation

With all the above said, is there something I need to change or add to this? Though its only for 3 days (maximum), I want to make sure I come back to my oasis. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Once thing's for sure, with that much artillery there should be no algae. Just taking your FC to 20 as you walk out the door would probably last 1-2 days uncovered. So with the cover on, the FC should last longer and I wouldn't imagine you would need much else. But if you decide to drop a tab or two into the feeder as insurance that's fine. I don't think you need to fill it up with 10-12 though.

Gotcha! Thanks. :D
I went on a three week vacation. My friend did put some chlorine from time to time and run the pump occasionally. Cover was on all the time and I did not had any algae grow at all except inside the skimmer - since she forgot to clean the basket full of leaves.
I think the trick is having higher FC levels than normal and keeping it high all the time. Water was almost 90 when we were back.
