During closing I drained off about 8 - 10 inches of water to below the eyeball. In the last few weeks we've had 4" of rain, nearly a foot of snow, and now sub-freezing temps. Now there is about 4 - 5" of ice on top of the pool that is about an inch below the top rail. Water has seeped around the skimmer plug and the skimmer is a plug of ice. I'm going to fill the skimmer with salt to get it to melt off and then fill it with scrap pool noodles. Should I cut / melt a hole in the ice to drain a few inches off or am I better off letting it be and getting to it when it is warmer next week? Forecast is for maybe 1" of snow in the next week but temps will approach single digits. With no more precipitation, but more freezing temps, will the ice expand up and damage the top rail or will it continue to just freeze deeper? I'm getting kind of nervous, this is the first time in 10 years I haven't been able to stay on top of it.
Thanks in advance.
