type and cost of algaecide for closing

The pool store is always rushing and trying to swipe my credit card as fast as possible, and I avoid going there, but I did this time.

They sold me a bottle of winter algaecide that was over $40 after tax. Should I return it and if so, what can I get? I am really needing to not waste money.

This winter algaecide has copper in it, and she said it won't stain.

I've been just buying the walmart $8 bottles of algaecide. I see those are only 20% though, and I was wanting to follow the instructions in this forum and get 60% algaecide.

I already began the process by shocking the pool and I want to finish closing it in 48 hours or less, so that's why I gave in and went to the pool store.

Return it.

The only one we recommend is Polyquat 60. Look for the words "Poly[oxyethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene dichloride 60%" as the Active Ingredient.

Using algaecide when you close your pool is not a requirement. I have never used it and I would say more than half on this forum do not use it, either.
