I am in the process of dissolving 4 lbs of CYA in my pool. Tested the pH and it is a 6.8. I assume it will drop more by the time I am done. Should I adjust now or wait?
Curious, why? Do you know what is causing your pH to fall so much when usually pH will rise on its own? Are you using something acidic (i.e. pucks), did you overshoot with muriatic acid, or is your TA exceptionally low?
FC 3.5
CC 0
pH 6.8
TA 60
CH 125
Poolmath is suggesting 178 oz of baking soda and 105 oz of borax. Should I do the baking soda first, then test and adjust borax accordingly?
No baking soda. Your TA is fine. Just a little borax to raise the pH to about 7.2-7.4 for now. Then let the water go for a day or two and re-test as pH tends to rise on its own. At the same time, increase your FC right away. It's too low as noted on the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA].
Oh, I forgot. Adding 4 lbs. of cya only got me to about 40 CYA. Should I add some more? or wait a little longer to see if it is done dissolving? I added it on Wednesday.
I'd wait. Once the granules are all dissolved, then check in a day or two. You're at 40 now, it may climb a little more. So watch the FC level to ensure you are keeping-up with the CYA to keep them balanced as noted on the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA].
