Testing CYA with algea

I'm about to open my pool which is green from algae and I'm going to follow the SLAM process but in the guide it says "don't depend on a CYA test done while you have algae". Can I still test the CYA levels with algae in the pool?

How do you guys do this if you don't know the CYA levels pre-opening.

Fill the tube with water straight from the pool and look down in to it. If the water is cloudy enough in the tube to somewhat or completely obscure the dot then the test will be skewed. If it looks perfectly clear in the tube though then you can run the CYA test just fine.

Brush away the area where you take your sample with your cup so it's just water and no solids
