Scrubbing DE grids with a soft brush

I have a new set sitting in the box; I like to have a backup so one can be in use while the other soaks. The skins on this one are "dirty" after a good hosing and holding water more than I'd like. Too little DE and the dirt was able to get into the material? Who knows. Back story- I've got poor grading in the backyard, and after a solid downpour (like we've had in recent weeks in Dallas), I get a lot of soil runoff into the pool and so I've been backwashing frequently and hosing down weekly. I can still get them to brand-new pressure, so technically they're still good without a soak- they're just to the point where I'm not able to get them toothpaste-commercial sparkling and was thinking about alternatives.
