Hello everybody. Im so glad i found this forum and thank you for letting me be a part of it. Were getting closer to breaking ground on our dream pool. Sept 15th. 30x16 freeform with spa, running bond beam with waterfalls, Baja shelf, Grand Canyon onyx boulders, led lights, pebbletec finish (still undecided on color). My wife and i have been planning this for a long time and are very excited!

My whole life I've been going to Lake Powell and boating the Colorado river. And we love the natural rock formations and the desertscape colors. (Add palm trees and its heaven) So naturally we want to replicate that as much as we can, Im going to post some pictures of the general theme and colors we are going after. Ive been collecting boulders and palms and searching for tile and still need to pick a pebble finish.
The raised spa will be in savannah mosaic, and the bond beam honey stacked stone. I was lucky to find these gorgeous boulders at my local yard.

Please comment if you have any ideas or suggestions for my new build. Thanks for having me. It will be fun to share the build with you guys! More pics coming of the space and rocks etc.

So here is the design. Im a little concerned about the Baja shelf cutting into that shallow end area. I might have to shrink it down a couple feet. 2 ft raised spa. 18 inch stacked stone bond beam run that drops down to 12'. 2 waterfalls. The area on the deep end between the two boulders is going to be a 1ft raised patio area with a slight radius linear fire feature running between the boulders flush with the ground and filled with fire glass or rock. The grand canyon onyx boulders will be placed around and in the wall and behind the spa. I think were gonna do a Davis color concrete broom finish in harvest gold with some creative lines. Were supposed to sign tomorrow.. but ive not even met the builder? Nor has he been to the house to see the space. So far we've only been dealing with the design/sales girl. She looks about 24 and sometimes i wonder if she really knows the technical side of construction and is just trying to make a sale.
should i be concerned? Should i insist the builder come to the site before signing? But what if he sees things that might add to the cost... or just go with her as we had to do lots of tug a war to get the design and price set?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those rocks!!!! I have some ideas for your plaster color to go with those but we will get to that later.

Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing with your sales girl. Has SHE come to the house and measured and looked at your survey to make sure there are no set backs or such?

Now on to the design-I would make sure you have a good swim lane. To do that your will need to shift the bench at the end of the pool in the deep in over or make it smaller so there is an open area to swim to and maybe do a flip or just do a crawl stroke up to the wall without hitting your hand.

How many lights and where? How many skimmers and returns and where?

Thanks Kim. I think were swaying towards a small pebble finish. Maybe midnight blue? The pool is in full sun all day and being that its not too deep i think will make for a nice color (not to dark) and not to light. Yes she's been to the house a couple times and did the site survey and has been coordinating with her boss, so maybe im worrying for nothing. I like that idea of moving or making that deep end step out smaller. She hasnt mentioned anything about the skimmers?

Here's a copy of the plumbing from the bid. Does that look right ?

also ive read on here that i should go at least 2x the volume on the SWCG?

3 LED COLOR LIGHTS. 2 in pool 1 in spa. The house is on the left. Well have the pool lights on the left as well shining towards the bond beam wall. The bond beam wall and spa are on a natural sloped hillside so the boulders will be set all around on the slope above the bond beam and spa among a ton of palms of all different species.

Here is an idea for the main drain:

Some of them can even have plaster put in them to help them blend in even better.

You need to talk to her about number of skimmers and returns as well as placement. The plans are mighty vague.

Lets also talk about valves. You want to make sure to get "good" ones. Here is an example:

Pentair Two Port Diverter Valve with 2" PVC Pipe - 263029

Note this is just quick look at what you want to talk about. The brand and kind.

They are super vague! It has me worried. Is this how it works? I had 3 PBs give me bids and they were all vague. My guess is tomorrow when we meet at their office she will have the real plans drawn up with all the details? I should then take those plans and study them for a few days before i sign my soul away?

Thanks for the tips on those links KIM!

We actually are having a separate concrete company do the deck as it will save us a few thousand.
