Anne here in Southern IL. Our pool was a green swamp, till I found this forum. Owned our pool 10 years, never any algae till this year. Looked like a pond. Ate all the chlorine and algaecide we put in it. Stayed green, and caused much debate between me and hubby.
After lots of reading here (I must have read the SLAM piece 20 times! I have parts of it memorized!), we bought a test kit and found the CYA in our pool was 200+. We had to drain, then refill. CYA was still over 100. Drained down to 18 inches.
Then we followed the SLAM instructions, fixed the PH and bingo! Sparkling blue, pretty pool. LIKE ALMOST OVERNITE. Simple chemistry, but couldn't have done it without all the info here.
Thanks again.
