So i had to start slamming my pool. Everything i read says to make sure you check and change the cartridge filter. How am i supposed to change the filter when i have to get in the pool to cap off the lines but not supposed to enter a pool with chlorine levels that high? Am i overthinking this?

Ideally you would have valves in your plumbing which allow you to shut it off without putting a plug in the pool. However there is no harm in getting in the pool for a few minutes to plug the returns. In fact the active level of chlorine in your pool at shock level is still less than at a public non-stabilized pool with an FC of 2ppm.
