CYA stays at 0

Hi all! We recently had to replace our pool, so we have brand new water. Crystal clear, CC is 0. FC is 22 currently. CYA was 0, so according to PoolMath we needed to add 48oz of stabilizer (crystals). Added to the skimmer, waited a few days, still 0. We just added the rest of the stabilizer which was about 30oz and I'll pick more up tomorrow...but any ideas why the CYA is not increasing? We used the Taylor K-2006 to test.

Thanks
Liz

The granules you trickled into the skimmer are most likely in the dead flow zone of your cartridge filter. That is why it is recommended to place the granules in a sock and hang it in front of a return jet. Squeeze it every once in a while and the granules dissolve.

I suggest tearing down your cartridge filter and seeing if the granules are in there.

Have you popped open the filter to see if it is all sitting on the bottom of the cartridge? Your most recent test, was there any cloudiness to the dot at all?

EDIT: yeah, what he said ;)

With new water and 78oz of CYA your CYA should be 77 ppm. Even if it is 100, either because you added more than 78 oz or your water volume is lower than you thought, you can run FC at 7-9 ppm and it will be fine.
