Yes, it will definitely help. I have 5 4x12 panels, 240sf for a 700sf pool that only receives full sun for less than 2 hours per day. My solar panels get sun for 8-9 hours. From about 10/11 am to 7ish pm right now. We can gain 5 to 8 degrees in a day. With a solar cover we lose 1 or 2 degrees, maybe 3 sometimes. So, over the course of a week we can gain 10-15 degrees. We have found that we can generally maintain the water temp 3 to 8 degrees above the daily high temps. So, when it is lo 60 and hi 80 our pool will usually be 82 to 88 degrees with solar and the cover. Sometimes wind and rain derail that a bit and we turn on the heat pump.
There are pics of my solar panels and some discussions about heating in my pool thread, link in sig.
