old pool no concrete collar

Hello.
Im from long island fixing old steel inground pool. Found that theres no contrete collar at bottom around.
Was talking with people who was doing demolition some pools and he said he never seen any concrete behind steel wall at bottom.
How critical is pouring collar?

Can you find out who manufactured the pool and what their recommendation is?

Vinyl liner pools are a structural balance. The water inside is exerting force trying to escape. The soil wall on the outside holds the water in. The steel or plastic or wood walls just separate the two. Once the pool is built and seasoned and as long as it is full then they don't matter much. However, in the beginning we pour concrete behind the walls to "set" them in place and then backfill so when the water goes in it doesn't move the walls. Once the pool is filled and the ground around it compacted the concrete just like the walls doesn't do all that much.

It's when you lower the water level that the walls become important. When you drain the pool to change the liner the walls have to be able to provide some temporary wall support. And if you are replacing wall pieces the industry standard is to set the backside of the wall and supports in concrete. But I wouldn't did up an old pool just to add concrete.
