Collapsing cover

Hi All,
we've gotten about a foot of snow in the last couple weeks and it has taken its toll on my pool cover. Above ground pool, the weight of the snow was pulling the sides of the cover off the walls of the pool...as of yesterday one side of the cover gave way and is now in the pool - weights, snow and all.

just checking in to see if anyone has any experience with with this and how big of a problem it is!? I've already resigned myself to the fact that the pool water will be a disaster when it is time to open it - I don't think there is much I can do about it until the snow melts but want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for disaster by letting it be until it warms up a bit.

I am beginning to wonder if covers don't do more harm than good for this very reason. What are the weights made of? Is your pool a solid block of ice?

I will wait for the answers before going forward.
