Since turning the SWG on I have notice I go through roughly a gallon of acid per week to keep the Ph in range. Prior to the SWG I maybe used 1/4 gallon. Is this normal? All of my other levels are spot on. Thanks.
Yes SWG's produce hydrogen bubbles which increases aeration inside the SWG cell. Aeration increases the rate of outgassing of CO2 which pushes up your pH levels.
My guess is that you are trying to keep your pH at 7.2... I find it much eaiser to keep Ph at 7.7 to 7.8. It tends to stay there for a much longer period of time before I have to add MA again.
I would start by lowering your TA to 70 and see how that works. If that does not work well, you can try a TA of 60.. Each pool is a little different.
I find this works best for me if I test every 3 or 4 hours and keep it up until the TA is where I want it. I then keep aerating, and testing, until I get the pH back up to above 7.6.
