Hello we currently have a 120v pool light but we are doing a backyard renovation so I have the chance to ditch the junction box for the current pool light. My question is can I run the Pentair 5g 12v pool light directly to the transformer which is about 70’ away or do I need to still run it to a junction box before the transformer? Also I have read mixed things about the 12v Pentair, does it require bonding and grounding?

Always follow local code requirements for electrical installations as well as the manufacturer's instructions on bonding, etc. Depending on which transformer you have, it may be OK to use it as the junction box. Hayward and Intermatic both make combo transformer/junction boxes.

Thank you.I am having a hard time finding anything in local code here is Los Angeles. Everything relates to 120v pool light.

Remember, with a 12v light, the lenghth of cord from the light to the transformer will have a large affect on the amount of light. If you run the full 70 feet, you may need to use a 13 or 14v tap on the transformer to get sufficient light. The longer the cord the more voltage drop between the source and fixture. In 70 feet, using the 12v tap, you may only have 10 -11v at the fixture. Follow instructions in whatever manual comes with the light.
