In the past for in ground pools, companies used vermiculite (which supposedly move around a little bit). They started using a stronger base (sand/cement mix). If no one is jumping and doing cannonballs from a ladder or tree, the Pool Crete (which is probably a harder base is best). If not, then stick with the sand or vermiculite, which is a softer base.

I recall seeing some AGP builds where the owner put some sort of heavy duty foam core base down in large panels, using gorilla tape at the seams. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
I was thinking of using the foam then a gorilla pad?? I am reading that once pool structure is up you need 2" of "bottom". Trying to decide on foam or sand??? Anyone have advice?
