DE coming back to haunt me!

I have noticed that when I shut off the filter and then remove the chlorinator lid I get a backwash of DE up through the floor drain.
I attribute this to a bad check valve in the filter. Any ideas? Also, I noticed yesterday a stream of DE coming out of the two returns after I shut down, bumped and turned back on. Could this be a ripped finger or diaphragm gasket? Thank you
