I am planning on replacing my old single speed 1.5hp Hayward Super Pump with a Sta-Rite Supermax VS 1.5hp pump. Can anyone tell me if this is a good pump or should I go with one of the Hayward variable speed pumps? Thanks
Is your power cost high enough to warrant a VS pump? A 2-speed motor on your existing pump would be cheaper up front, get you most of the electrical savings, and not require plumbing work.
Sta-Rite / Pentair are the same. Any major brand is fine.
My only thought is that the Hayward Superpump VS might align better with your existing plumbing.
From what I've read about this pump, it is made to replace the Hayward Super Pump and will use the existing plumbing. I have a friend in the business who is getting me the Sta-Rite Super Max VS at a real low price because of a significant rebate on that model so I figured it was worth it. My electric bill gets up there in the summer with AC, my well pump and the pool. The price was too good to pass up. Do you know how quiet this pump is at the high setting? Any problems with it that you know of?
