I just read a thread about the benefits of borax to get rid of boatmen and other pool nasties. I am wondering if this is safe for vinyl lined pools with regular chlorine. Will it risk damaging the liner? We are getting a new liner this year. Also, has anyone tried the less expensive types of self cleaning vacuum devices from on Amazon and did you like them? I do not want to spend a fortune but would like to try them.

Welcome to TFP!!!Borates are fine for vinyl pools. But, you need to realize that proper chlorine balance is what keeps the nasties away. Borates just offer some enhancements, but certainly not required.
