Pressure question/ high-low setting

When everyone talks about psi readings when are you reading it? If you have a variable speed is it on high?low?

I ask because I have likes 1psi reading when on low and 15psi on high. Does this seem to be the "norm". Hoping I shouldn't be seeing more pressure on the low pump setting. My pump is at pool level and half my filter is above water level. All is hard piped 1.5" pvc about 10-12' runs.

Also so when you prime are you doing at high or low setting.

From what I have read I believe i should only run pump on low except when adding Chems then flip to high to help circulate

Your pressures sound fine.

High is used to run cleaners, or mix chemicals as you pour them in, or to get enough flow to get some real skimmer action going to clean the surface.

You want to use high speed when doing the pressure check to know if you need to clean the filter.
Priming also must be done on high speed.
