Michael, You will want to have some bleach on hand to put in there as well. I would have a turkey baster ready to help put 50/50 bleach water into the hole.

IF you do have algae in there I would leave the light out for a couple of days so water can get in there good. A toothbrush would be helpful as well to really get in there.

Kim, great tips! I'm going to have to get in there and do this. I'll start with the spa. That should be easier to get out. I could even drain it.

Let us know what you find and maybe have a camera ready to take pics. Lights and ladders are the biggest "hiders" of algae around!
