A no drain acid wash can be rather risky, tends to take weeks, and usually doesn't work. You risk damaging the plaster, since the acid will act everywhere, not just where there is scaling. If there is a heater with a copper heat exchange coil you must bypass it. And finally, all of the calcium ends up in the water, which means you will need to do a massive water replacement when you are done.
In nearly every case it is better to drain and do a normal acid wash.
If you still want to proceed, the steps are all laid out in the Jack's Magic Stain Solution #2 Treatment directions. You can also do much the same thing with muriatic acid and any calcium specific sequestrant.
My pool water is 5-6 years old and the calcium deposits on the plaster are all over the surface. would it be better to drain the pool and acid wash it with it drained?
