1.5" Skimmer to 2" pump connection?

The outlet of my 15K gallon AGP Hayward Skimmer is 1.5". I have just upgraded to a VSP pump that uses 2" connectors. Would it cause a problem if I run 2" pipe from the pump, underground across the yard (about 20 feet), then back up to the skimmer but use a 2" to 1.5" pvc reducer to connect the pipe from the pump to the skimmer? Or is that going to screw up the flow?

It will not affect anything in a appreciable way, especially with such a sort run. You're going to have flow for DAYS.

Is the current plumbing 1.5 inch ?

Which pump did you buy ?

I'm a go big or go home kinda guy, but the plumbing upgrade while relatively cheap may take forever to pay you back in energy savings from slightly less restriction / better flow. You also likely wouldn't notice the difference between the two on a simple system. But also, definitely 'now's the time' if it's simply on the want list.

Thanks! The current plumbing is 1.5 because the old pump was 1.5. I'm moving from an Intex (.85hp) to a Pentair Intelliflow VSF (3Hp). I want to take advantage of the larger pipe size because I am like you. Go big or go home! LOL I should now be able to add features (fountains, etc) into the mix and not have a problem.

No need for a fountain, an intelliflo with a 20 ft run is going to be all

That's on low speed.

This is on high speed.

Oh man I am dying laughing. Thanks for that! LOL
I guess my main concern was deciding between the lesser of two evils: using a reducer at the skimmer connection or at the pump connection. My instincts are telling me that using a reducer at the pump connection would not be a great idea. LOL
