I often wonder if the R rating on pipe insulation is any better than pool noodles. They are thicker though. Pipe insulation isn't expensive in the first place iirc...

From my limited knowledge of spas... They normally do this on a schedule 2 or more times a day. It's so that your water is filtered and ready for you when you go to use it, and also filtered when you don't use it.
