Lexan light cover to permanently close off the niche

They put it in today. It’s a 10 hole cover with a gasket on the back side. Seals up the light niche water tight. If you change the liner out, you put the cover on flush and put the new liner over the top. I just got a new liner last year. If I knew the epoxy was going to Crud out I’d have...

Lexan light cover to permanently close off the niche

Anyone ever use one of those lexan light niche covers? I have a leaking light niche that can’t be repaired unless I dig up the deck and replace it. I’m just going to get a cover and a gasket and seal the thing off. If anybody has ever gotten one if mine some feedback on how it worked.

    Heat Pump questions

Just my opinion. I live in Massachusetts. I have a heat pump. Aquacomfort 100,000 BTU. May as well be a boat anchor. In practice, they only work down to about 65 degrees. I bought it when I put the pool in 9 years ago. I used it 2 seasons and said enough of this and got gas. I figured id use the...

Home Automation and Integration with Alexa / Google Home

I'm all good. I got it working. My issue was the pool name. I tried to name it Pentair: XX-XX-XX, just like on the screen logic home screen. Turns out the skill didn't like that. I just named it "My Pool", entered the brick ID, and it added it to the skill. Works great. My pool's closed, but I...

Home Automation and Integration with Alexa / Google Home

I just got an Echo/Alexa. Having trouble getting the skill for the Pentair set up. I enter the name and brick ID, but it says the verification failed. I need to call Pentair and see what's up. I don't get home until 6:30 most nights and haven't had a chance to call them for a trouble shoot yet.

    Gas Heater and Heat Pump

I'm in Massachusetts and I have both a gas heater and a heat pump. I had the HP first, but wasnt doing the job on other end of the season. I was like you. I thought I'd use the gas to heat the pool when I wanted fast heat and use the HP to maintain during the summer. You know what, I havent...

Water Coming out Pool Light Pipe

Why are there wires for the pool pump in the light conduit?

Water Coming out Pool Light Pipe

Raise the box. Thats the proper fix. As others haave said, its normal to have water in the conduit. Thats why the code calls for the juncion box to be above the water level of the pool.

GFCI Breaker Issue on Pentair EasyTouch Load Center

Not the way i read it. He has a 40 amp dipole feeding the ET box. There is no GFI breaker on the OP's main. When he wired it up in the ET box correctly like Bama told him, all is well

GFCI Breaker Issue on Pentair EasyTouch Load Center

He did. And thats why it tripped. The neutral from the load HAS to be connected to the GFCI breaker. The only neutral on a GFCI breaker that goes to the bus is the curly Q from the breaker. If a neutral is run directly to the bus from the load, even if the curly -Q is attached as well, it'll trip.

GFCI Breaker Issue on Pentair EasyTouch Load Center

It's not. The ET panel is set up like any other subpanel. The neutral bus and ground bus arent bonded together. A GFCI breaker in the ET box works like a GFCI breaker in the main would. The neutral from the load (outlet) is connected to the GFCI breaker. The little curly-Q white pigtail off the...

Pool water level increasing due to rain--When should I drain some water?

Pump it down to just below the top of the skimmer. If the water is above the skimmer opening, it won't work properly to keep the surface clean. That's my rule of tomb anyway when mine fills up with rainwater.

    Propane heater?

Thats a 150,000 BTU heater. You wouldn't want less than a 150 gallon tank, IMO. Smaller tanks will freeze up even with a small 150,000 BTU heater. Call a local propane company and have them give you an install estimate. You dont buy the tank. The LP company will give you the tank free with no...

    Need electricial help for sub-panel

Some guys use one smaller gauge for the ground. Me? I'd use the insulated # 6 in green. Did you use black wire for the neutral? If so, get a role of white electrical tape and wrap it around the end of the wire at each end so you and anyone else knows is the neutral.

    Need electricial help for sub-panel

I just did the calculations. On 130 foot run with #6 wire with a 50 amp continuous load (which you would never have) the voltage drop is a pinch over 2%. Anything under 5% you're golden. And NO NO, NO, a thousand times NO. A neutral to a subpanel with 120 volt outlets, lights, etc, is a MUST...

    Need electricial help for sub-panel

This ^^^ On the grounding rod. You dont need one unless the panel is mounted on a structure other than the structure that houses the main. Sounds like you are mounting it to the house so you wouldnt need one. And yes, you do need a neutral, so 4 wires, 2 hots, neutral and a ground.

    Heat pump plumbing ....

A bypass valve on a heat pump, or any heater for that matter, is generally only needed if the water flow (i.e. GPM) are too high and exceed the rating for the heater. That only is needed if the flow rate is over 80 GPM or so. A plumbed bypass with PVC and a couple of valves would probably...

    AquaComfort vs Hayward Heat Pump?

Just an FYI. Low speed on a 2 speed pump most likely isnt enough flow for the heat pump. Check how many gpm the heat pump requires. Im guessing low speed wont push enough water to activate the flow switch on the HP.

compression fittings OK on flexible PVC?

Kinda like barb fittings, clamp, and black poly. Once you get a barb fitting on, is heck to get it off. Double clamp and they wont blow.
  28. B

compression fittings OK on flexible PVC?

Flex PVC is used all the time with barb fittings and clamps. Not an issue, although I prefer PVC glue. I can tell you even with barb fittings and clamps, those barb fittings are alomost impossible to get off once they are on. Why do you think you would move things around?

    Gas Line for Pool Heater

They make heat fusion tools to join PE gas lines. We used to use the tools that you heat up with a torch. The pipe goes on one end, and the fitting on the other end of the tool. Heat it up with a torch, the pull the pipe and fitting off the tool, then put the fitting on the pipe. Now they have...

New Heater Installation - separate breaker?

I could, but not sure it would help you much. I have a Pentair Easy Touch that controls everything. My heater is set up for 240V. I have L1 and L2 for the heater coming off the load side of the filter pump relay so when the pump relay is on (i.e. pump is running), I have power to the heater.
