Another Pool Skim Review

I received mine and installed it last week in my 18ft above ground. The thing is awesome, works exactly as described. And it's very solid, it survived a whole weekend of pool play with my 4 yr old. It even managed to trap Ariel the Mermaid without complaining. Part of my late Sunday was just...

    nylon string for thermometer

You can use a length of that nylon twine that's used with "Weed-Eaters" and similar trimmers. Also, attach some to the skimmer basket (make a handle out of it) on an above ground pool to facilitate removing the basket.

Be an activist swimmer - free test strips

So this web site here http://healthypools.org/freeteststrips/ is giving away free test strips and asking people to test pools all over the US and report back with the chlorine and pH levels. According to that site, "A properly maintained pool helps prevent recreational water illnesses, keeping...

Wow! Taylor SpeedStir is SO COOL

Just something to keep in mind: under low ambient light conditions, when you're using the illuminated base during a FAS-DPD test, the light is strong enough as to mask a slight pink color, making the test read low. (In other words you think the sample has turned clear when in fact it's still pink).

    Anyone used the eXactmicro 8?

Well not exactly, the reagents are released from the strips into the sample. The strip is removed from the sample prior to taking the reading.

St. Paul Pool Uses Moss To Reduce Chlorine Use

"At the pools, sterilized moss is placed in containers, and water is allowed to flow slowly through it. Knighton said the moss acts as a filter, removing heavy metals such as iron, and as a conditioner, limiting the growth of bacteria, algae, mold and fungus. He said the pH level, or alkalinity...

Portable Magnetic Stirrer from Apollo Pools

It's a 50 mL beaker, a 10 mL sample, say for salt or bleach, works fine, as does a 38 mL (if I remember) water + melamine (CYA test to 20 ppm). 25 mL is excellent, you get very good "depth" to gauge the endpoints. 10 mL is about the minimum. The included stirbar is an 8x25 mm, it may be a bit...

Portable Magnetic Stirrer from Apollo Pools

I hope this doesn't sound like an advertisement ... The stir bar is magnetic, teflon coated, so it couples very well with the stirrer. It has a pivot ring so the beaker doesn't drag while stirring, and to allow for a good spin if the bottom of the stirring vessel is uneven.

    Winter Cover sizing

I didn't take out the winter cover just yet so I used a dish towel in its place just to show what I mean:DSCF6203.JPG[/attachment:190s5lmn] Because of the way the pool is constructed I'm able to attach the clamps to the 2x4s along the pool. There's nothing holding the...

    Winter Cover sizing

Mine's an 18' and I think my winter cover is a 21' (came with the house). I keep it down with clamps from the dollar store:pool.jpg[/attachment:y562bdgq] My error was clamping down the cover when it was too taut, the weight of the snow caused it to tear at some places...

    Is it worth it?

"Dear Dr. Phil, we've all read the story of the stolen pool, water and all, well, I'm just itching to, euh, "grab" a water sample from my neighbor's pool, it has this green tint to it and it bugs me, has been for two years, so I want to ...test it. Just test it. I know it's wrong, I know it's...
