Mesh safety cover 101. Need help.

Sorry for the confusion. I don't lower the water below the skimmer. I leave it around 3/4 from the top of the skimmer. I other words, there is water in the skimmer, but lower than it would be when I have the pool open. I find that's about the right level to hold the snow load I usually get. In...

Mesh safety cover 101. Need help.

Put some water back in the pool. Leave about a foot to 15 inches below the top of the pool. Re-hook the straps you took off so the cover will work properly and you'll be good. The cover is designed so the majority of the weight of the snow will be held by the water underneath. I had 4 feet plus...

Mesh safety cover 101. Need help.

James is correct. Your water level is too low. I only lower my water level to just above the bottom of the skimmer. In other words, I have water in the skimmer. It's ok as long as the gizmo plug is in the skimmer. My returns are cover with water. I blow the lines wet. Put some more water in the...

    Combined chlorine too low

Please don't add anymore baking soda. That is for raising the TA, not pH. Your TA is high enough, too high really. You need to read through pool school a few more times before you add anything else.

how many amp service to inground pool

Voltage drop issues arent as big a problem on something like this as most people think. Actually the minimum for 100 amp service is #4 copper or #2 Alum. But, anything over about 5% drop should be upsized. For #3 copper at 500 feet under a continuous 60 amp draw (which the OP would never see...

how many amp service to inground pool

With a heat pump, you'll want 100 amp service. It'll be a bit higher than you need, but 60 amp is pushing the lower limits of what you'd want. For 100 amp service, you need #3 copper or #1 aluminum.

How deep does pipe need to be buried?

The OP is in Atlanta. There will be no frost heave issues. Up north, a lot of pools are plumbed with black poly so if you do get any heaves, the pipes wiont shatter like PVC. If you dont blow the lines out, just run the pump in the winter when you may get a hard freeze. 1 foot would be fine...

    Vinyl pool concrete damage

If it is vermiculite, it's not that is a poor material, it's just kind of what it does over time. Sometimes it doesn't do that, but a lot of the time it does. If you replace the liner, it isn't too hard for the pool guy to fix.

    Vinyl pool concrete damage

If there are divots and pock marks, my guess is the floor is made out of vermiculite and not concrete.

Winter water level control - how to prevent ice popping tiles

Hey from Worcester county. Just take a couple of three straps off and take a peek. Go to Lowes or the Depot and get submergable pump and put it on the top step. Pump enough water out to get it down to where you want it. Pull the pump out and button it back up. I need to do this very thing about...

inground pool on ~15-18 degree slope - questions

From the looks of it, you might be able to dig the area out in front of the patio and sink the pool. That would put a couple of walls on the sides and none in the back. In any case, just adding a little fill on the back side is really not the way to do this. The rule of thumb when leveling a pad...

inground pool on ~15-18 degree slope - questions

I have a similar set up. Badly sloped back yard. You will need a retaining wall of some sort. And probably not a rail road tie or a small one either. Its probably something that needs some meat to it. Like others have said, we would need pictures to give you any more info. A nice vinyl IG pool...

    HOA denied pool build... advice?

+2 Some of those guys are little despots that need to be crushed like the vermin they are. But yea, kill them with kindness. If that fails, get a lawyer. If that fails and you really want a pool, call a realtor

    Electric heat pump

Thats the conundrum. 70+ degree days, a heat pump will put heat in the pool. But the nights get so chilly that the amount of heat they transfer is about equal to whats lost, so it basially a wash. Sure, a HP will move some heat at 55 degrees, the amount lost negates the amount put in...

    Electric heat pump

No, you're pretty well spot on. Below 60 degrees, they spin the meter, that all. This time of year, a heat pump with no solor cover = about what you are seeing. And you cant compare a pool heat pump efficiency to a HP for a house. The difference in BTU need to heat a pool compared to a house is...

    sequestering agent?

Same with my experience. Anything above 0.4 ppm can be too high. I used to use Jack's, but found the HTH metal out at walmart is just as effective and it's about 10 bucks a bottle.

    Clairfier

Never had any luck with that. Plain old clarifier works. Just dont over dose it.

    Clairfier

I've used it on occasion with good results. Never tried it to deal with an algea problem. Just stubborn pollen and fine stuff. My sand filter is slightly undersized and a minimal dose of clarifier works really well.

Clarifier.. a wonderul product to use if......

Humerous post, but actually, the clarifier did what it was supposed to do. It bound up particles in your pool water that were now filtered out. Then you had to clean your cart. Clarifier can work pretty well, and is a pretty decent product if you know when to use it. I've used it on occasion to...

How much to put in escrow?

I'd demand it. It's april, no damage is going to be incurred by any weather at this point. How bad do they want to sell the house and how bad do you want it? If they wont just open the pool at this point in the year, Id' be wondering whats wrong with it. But then again i'm a suspicious person...

Inspecting pool without it being open?

IMO, that's a poor way to inspect a pool. I suppose you could get an idea of what it looked like and the basic equipment. If it were me, I would want to see it operational. If it were the dead of winter, I'd understand not wanting it opened. On the first of April, I'd want it open. At the very...

    Have you ever noticed??....

That was fun. Kinda breaks up the off season. After not having any snow this winter (only 7 inches), it's snowing like heck here today   , so anything to forget that pool season is still ways off up here is nice!
