New Pentair Salt Cell IC40 Checklist

No, I don't think so. I actually have no idea. The history on this cell can be seen here, here and here (my previous post in this thread). To summarize... Cable failure cause a short in an old cell. Replacement from Pentair was installed. New cell worked for 8 months until cell light started...

New Pentair Salt Cell IC40 Checklist

Perfect. Thank you. It worked for 8 months, then the cell light started flashing. I posted about it here. It was a replacement from Pentair for a safety issue. Anyway, I procrastinated and did nothing about it and just maintained the chlorine levels manually for about a month until I could get...

New Pentair Salt Cell IC40 Checklist

I have a new IC40 salt cell that I just bought to replace a failed cell. I have replaced my salt cell in the past and didn't check much of anything then. I read through the manual and didn't note anything specific that I should check for a replacement. I wanted a sanity check of what I should...

8 month old Pentair Intellichlor IC40 - Cell Lighting Flashing

Since I now have the pool chemistry within Pentair specifications (<100ppb phosphates), does it make sense to give Pentair one last call to see if there is anything else that they can suggest? If the flow switch / temperature cell is working properly, I suspect that I should cut the wires close...

8 month old Pentair Intellichlor IC40 - Cell Lighting Flashing

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I was already ahead on getting this cell for free from Pentair. Thank you for the feedback. I'll try this and see where the voltage is. But I suspect that since the cell is "on" that this is within specifications.

8 month old Pentair Intellichlor IC40 - Cell Lighting Flashing

From this article (Pentair Intellichlor ICXX SWG - Further Reading), holding the more button I was able to get the following information. less than 1,000 hours of operation, no percentage lights initially lit 80 and 100% lights lit, so 86 to 95F, which appears to be about correct. I also see...

8 month old Pentair Intellichlor IC40 - Cell Lighting Flashing

I came across this post. With the flashing green light cell, I did clean it with acid thinking that I was missing something. Dang. I may have destroyed this cell. A very expensive mistake.

8 month old Pentair Intellichlor IC40 - Cell Lighting Flashing

The IC40 that I have was replaced in November 2020 through Pentair. Details can be seen in this post; Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning. It is not covered under warranty. So the cell is just about 8 months old and the cell light is flashing. I have confirmed that it is NOT generating...

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

No, I don't seem many things corrode here. We are far enough from the salt water that I don't see an effect from it. Now the sun on the other hand has prematurely destroyed things. Most notable is car tires. Most people accept it as part of living here. I try to spray the tires with a UV...

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

Oh my, that's an interesting scenario that I do typically run through (because I don't trust people)...makes you wonder.

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

Are you talking about a salt cell enclosure failure? I am looking forward to it! Need to wait for the replacement to come first...then the holidays, so who knows when I will get to this!

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

I agree. I think that I will have to make another call to Pentair once I have the parts in hand to see what they have to say.

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

You are 100% correct. I already called them and after a bit of a discussion, they are sending new components (the wire and the salt cell). I was pleasantly surprised that they would do this, but they never mentioned me sending the old parts back in. I will ask them once I get the new parts in hand.

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

Any thoughts on putting a fuse on the + side to protect against this in the future?

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

Yeah, I was on the fence with this test. Just wanted to talk the logic out...

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

This is exactly what I was thinking of doing to check the cell. You don't think that there is a concern with damaging anything else? What about the burning / scorching evidence for the connections to the flow cell?

Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Fire / Burning

I was doing my normal pool maintenance today and came across this in my EasyTouch panel. (The first indication was the burning smell.) Traced the wire back to the PCB and found no issues there. Removed the salt cell cover to the flow switch and found this. So needless to say, I am...

Pentair IC40 SWG in Florida with 34 month of service and 20% used life not generating chlorine

It appears that I had an issue with the pool chemistry. Something must have been growing and I didn't notice it. SLAM'ed it and the pool looks much better! Sorry for the confusion here!

Thanks Jim. Sorry for the confusion here. I will work on that this week.

Pentair IC40 SWG in Florida with 34 month of service and 20% used life not generating chlorine

Jim, What I am saying is that the SWG lights turns and the cell is creating chlorine, but I guess the SWG cannot keep up with the Chlorine requirements of the pool when set to 100%. Haha, sorry. I am all over the place here. Let me summarize. My pool currently has a high requirement for...

Pentair IC40 SWG in Florida with 34 month of service and 20% used life not generating chlorine

Here is the video of the SWG creating chlorine. I am about to go and check the before and after chlorine content. Pool water FC is 9ppm, SWG FC is off the charts. I got to about 30ppm and had to stop using all of my reagents!

Pentair IC40 SWG in Florida with 34 month of service and 20% used life not generating chlorine

Thanks for your reply. Is it the wires in the upper left hand corner of your image? Yes, there is no scale that I can see. I went to the pool supply store and they lent me a spool piece to install and then test the SWG. The cell is creating chlorine when I press on the flow switch. I will post...

Pentair IC40 SWG in Florida with 34 month of service and 20% used life not generating chlorine

As the thread title states, I live in Florida and have a Pentair IC40 SWG. This is the first July that we are staying here (we usually go on a month long road trip - and it is blazing hot here) and I usually hire someone to maintain my pool for a few weeks. I should have noticed this earlier but...
