Budget swg, or best value for the buck

Chlorine usage is extremely low once water is below 70 and not being used. Below 60, I then close and cover, elevating to shock level FC. I always have some FC when opening in the spring. 3-4 ppm from closing at 12 I believe this last year. Sent from mobile device. Beware of brevity and...

Budget swg, or best value for the buck

I usually open by early to mid-May. Whenever the water temp approaches 60 degrees with the winter safety cover still on. I close in late September to mid-October. Again, when the water temp is below 60 degrees with the cover off. 60 degrees is the magic number that tells you when to open/close...

Budget swg, or best value for the buck

This is a good site for comparing costs. Compare and Review Saltwater Chlorine Generator Prices and Features It is generated and maintained by CircuPool so keep that in mind. Be sure to oversize your SWG unit/cell. Pool volume x 2 = the volume rating of the SWG you should buy.

    pH constantly rising

Bubblers, deck jets and SWG. Lots of aeration will drive that pH upward. Your TA is fairly low but could even allow it to get a little lower. Don't let it go below 50 though. You could consider borates to help with pH rise. I don't have direct experience with it myself, but there is some...

    Mumbling - SWG ?

You will only need to produce enough chlorine to MAINTAIN 3 FC each day, so that SJ-15 would be enough. An SJ-20 would work as well, especially if your aim is to reduce pump run time. SWG is your best solution and a great solution for nearly anyone. The only thing to consider for your location...

    Mumbling - SWG ?

That size would be sufficient, if your volume calculation is correct. Your target of maintaining 2 FC is likely not realistic. In your location with and SWG, we would recommend that your CYA level be 70-80 ppm for optimum chlorine usage efficiency. See here: Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart...

    can't understand inconsistent readings

Sounds like a good plan. What is your current water temp? Temperature can affect the accuracy and consistency of salt readings, but it would typically read low in cold water, normal in warm water greater than 70 degrees or so.

    CircuPool Install, Couldn't be happier

How long are you running your pump daily? The real savings with a higher output SWG is reducing pump time. Can you shorten your pump run time by running the SWG at higher % for shorter periods?

    CircuPool Install, Couldn't be happier

Actually, here at TFP, we recommend oversizing SWG units to TWICE the pool volume. It would not be overkill for your pool. Oversizing SWG units extends the longevity of the cell and reduces electricity costs. If you can run your SWG for shorter periods, you don't have to run your pump as long...

Looking to switch over from Bromine to SWG.

Changing to a salt (chlorine) pool can only be done when going from bromine with nearly a complete drain, so yes, doing so when you change the liner is the way to go. Is your filter working well now and not falling apart or in need of major repair? I would keep it. The one thing that can be an...

How Much sodium chloride powder needed for pool maintenance

Sodium chloride is not a sanitizer. Your SWG uses sodium chloride to produce chlorine by splitting the molecule apart to form chlorine and sodium ions. Without your SWG, NaCl does nothing for sanitation in your pool just like it does nothing for sanitation in the ocean. While your SWG is out...

Pool Pilot Digital - New Home

The only way to lower CH is to drain pool water and replace with water that has a lower CH. However, if it is pool store testing, I would not trust the test results. Here at TFP, we rely on accurate, convenient home testing. See here: Pool School - Test Kits Compared

    Time To Replace SWG. Suggestions?

Check out this link here: Full Market Comparison of Salt Water Chlorine Generators for Swimming Pools The guidelines here at TFP recommend oversizing your SWG for a pool twice the size of your actual volume. This allows lesser SWG run time and as a result, shorter pump run times. How long and...

Is SWG bad for the heater?

If you maintain a lower TA level (60-80) as TFP recommends, your acid usage won't be very high. Acid dosing can work well but it's also another piece of equipment to maintain and repair. The plastic lines on those systems need frequent replacement. I would see how your pH responds after adding...

Best SWG for 30' above ground pool

If your water depth is 4 feet, you've got 20K gallons. The general guideline recommended here at TFP is to oversize your SWG cell by 2x your pool volume. This allows you to run the SWG for less time each day, reducing pump run time and extending the life of your cell. Look for an SWG that's...

    Measuring salt ppm

The rule of thumb is to have enough salt so that your SWG unit doesn't complain with error lights, etc. It is nice to check to see what your salt level is at to see if your SWG is reporting similar results. If they don't agree, there could be a problem with the cell or sensor, such as corrosion.

    SWG Runtime Question

Your SWG would be helped out if you increased your CYA level. In the south, you get more intense sun and if you're getting it for 12 hours, you should have your CYA level at 70 ppm. This will protect your chlorine more from UV light and allow your SWG to keep up. See the Chlorine/CYA chart in my...

    Chlorine output from pentair ic40

Cell output is determined by the output setting on the SWG itself. It doesn't matter what RPM your pump is running at, so long as there is enough flow to keep the SWG from shutting off.

PH and TA , what to do?

I would also suggest raising your TA to 60 first, then dropping the pH, but only to about 7.6. If you're fighting pH rise even at TA of 50 or 60, never lower your pH below 7.6 if you can help it. Low TA helps prevent pH rise but pH rise is also slower at higher pH levels. So if you're never very...
