    Water Loss Over Winter

Did you plug the skimmer pipe and the return? If not, the ice on and under the cover might have forced the water out of them. (ice is less dense than water)

What do you think the cause is?

Thanks for the educated response, which mine wasn't - I have had limited dealings with AG pools. I do find it interesting that this must be an inherent problem with AG , or oval AG, pools. We don't know the manufacturer so must assume the problem is in the design and not, per se, the materials...

Help- befor i put in new liner

Welcome to TFP!! DE might be an effective answer. I'd treat the sand beneath the liner and the outer perimeter of the walls. (I doubt the kitties will be frolicking under the liner  )

What do you think the cause is?

I have reconsidered my hypothesis that it had to be a sudden loss of water. A slow leak could have drained the pool enough that the cover water eventually had to give, at it's weakest point, and with a sudden thaw - any buoyant ice would quickly be gone. Now I ask you to reconsider your...

What do you think the cause is?

OUCH! I don't have an answer that fits this, at this point - but let me walk you through what I'm seeing from the pics. (maybe someone else will be able to fit the pieces of this puzzle together) Looking at those pics, I see that where the wall failed is where the cover was firmly attached to...

How to Siphon Water From Cover Back Into Pool

Sorry to say it but, you can pump the water back under the cover to try to stay ahead of the leaks, but you can't siphon it. The trouble is that it's the same body of water - a siphon requires separate bodies of water and a difference in height.

    pump runs dry when vacuuming

Welcome to TFP!! Can you tell us how you attach your vacuum? (it might give us a good hint as to the problem) :)

vermiculite has a base for aboveground

If your original sand is well compacted, you could get away with ~ 1" of vermiculite to do the floor and make the cove vermiculite. On a 18' round ool, we're talking ~ 20 bags of Vermiculite and 10 bags of Portland cement. :)

vermiculite has a base for aboveground

That's your choice to make. I have 0 experience with the pads for AG pools

vermiculite has a base for aboveground

I've vermiculited AG pools and,as long as the troweler has some degree of skill, the result is FAR better than a sand bottom (as long as the pad is properly compacted) :)

Pool issues, need some help and advice.

Welcome to TFP!! The only problem I see with their using the IG skimmer is that they mounted it (and used wood screws to do it) :hammer: AG skimmers don't need to be mounted, the faceplate screws hold it in place. The only thing this really effects is it makes replacing the skimmer a lot more...

Possible problem with install? soft ground.

With drain pipe around the pool, you should be OK. If there are any soft spots where the pool will be, dig out the 'muck' and fill in with gravel and compact it. If you have to 'over-dig' the pool a few inches and fill it back up with gravel and compact it, you're better off taking care of it...

    re-patching a hole/repair man?

Welcome to TFP!! I did pools in Richmond for ~7 years, back in the late 80s to mid 90s. I can tell you that the best person in the area is...your husband  He did a good job, first time 'round and shouldn't be discouraged by this attempt! I've got some liner patching advice somewhere...

    Re-install of Hayward 4.2 Chlorine Feeder CL-110

I do NOT agree with unfiltered water going into the chlorinator  I know it's the way that they say to do it, but I disagree :( IMHO they say that so, if the filter is too congested to pass water through, there won't be a 'back-up' of chlorinated water in the unit, with no flow. More on...

    Skimmer repair

    If I had an AG pool, I'd want the Aquadoor on the skimmer. They work well as long as the "Tupperware" door is fully sealed (easily done with a rolling pin :idea: ). {EDIT} remove stutter stutter :lol: }

    Installing second return question

OK, take your brown dot and move it to the first straight panel (~ 1' off the upright) and up to be ~ 22 1/2" down from the top (it'd be better to measure down from the top of your panel to the center of your existing return and place the new one at ~ that depth). Then, as we talked about...

    Installing second return question

Hey Bo  A quick question. Which side of the arrow (I'm assuming the arrow is at the skimmer) is the existing return on? I want to tell you where to move your proposed new return and if you put it where I want, I'll tell you how to take the wall foam out of the equation.

True or False? Advice From A Pool Store Guy

 Welcome to TFP!! IMO, you are doing more damage to the liner by replacing them, if they haven't failed.

    Installing second return question

Without draining the water down below where you plan on installing a 'through wall' return, I can't see how you would drill through the wall without wrecking the liner :? If, you've already drained the pool far enough to do this, cutting the wall foam isn't a big issue. If you plan on drilling...

Welcome to TFP!! I would certainly tamp any ground that has just been excavated before putting up an AG pool :)

    Remove a patch

I don't know about being "smarter" ... but, thanks
  25. W

    Remove a patch

What I would do is re glue the old patch (the glue can be applied and will set up under water). Then cut another patch ~1" larger, all around, and put that one over the old patch. (advice on applying the patches is here)

    pool cover torn apart.....help!!

Not sure if this is the best answer but... You've probably got a LOT of 'stuff' in the pool, scooping out as much as you can now is a good idea. If you're not going to be able to swim (weather wise) for 2 months, I'd leave it as that for now. Plan on getting the pump system running a couple...

    Cutting vinyl liner

Welcome to TFP!! Can you post a pic of your new inlet/ outlet? In my experience the inlet/outlet through the wall fittings are all the same size. What you may be talking about is the size of the 'eyeball' or directional insert, in which case all you have to do is unscrew the 'setting ring'...

    Skimmer gasket leaking?

There's a chance the tear came when he changed out the return. However, I just don't know. To repair the liner there wouldn't be overly difficult- I'd cut a patch that is round and would cover the return cut out + the area that has the tear + ~1/2 - 3/4". It would be a simple matter to apply...
