    TFP opinions of Huntsville AL

My company offered me a position in Huntsville. I will be taking an exploratory trip in a month or so, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to solicit the opinions of my TFP brethren and sistren. Any TFP'ers live in the area? How do you like the location, culture, weather, food, etc. What...

    My neighbors foreclosed pool

When I moved to California and looked at several foreclosed properties I was surprised to find little fish in the abandoned pools. Apparently the "Mosquitofish" are distributed by the municipalities to keep mosquito populations down.

    Good vs Bad Neighbors

Different strokes. Living on the same plot of land with my parents would be a non starter for me. 3000 miles feels just about right.

    How did YOU find TFP?

I was moving from Newport, RI to Sacramento. I had never had any pool experience; never even had friends with pools, but I knew if I was going to live in 100+ degree summers I was going to buy a house with a pool. Found this website and joined months before even owning a pool. I am one of the...

    What's your current pool temp?

Ours hit 93 yesterday. That means solar cover off and evaporation loss goes into overdrive. :pale:

    Sparklypoolitis AKA My TFP Credentials

I joined TFP in November of 2009, a full month before I even owned a pool. I have only ever used the TFPC techniques and philosophy, so I have never been "pool stored" and never had to SLAM. Sometimes I almost wish for a problem so I could have a challenge (not really).

    Patching Asphalt Driveway

I spent 5 years building tennis courts working for the most meticulous contractor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We used latex modified cement materials for patching asphalt courts (mix of portland cement, sand, latex additive). These were permanent patches. His philosophy was to...

    Flat screen TV opinions

I have a 46" Sharp Aquos which I love. I prefer LCD to plasma also. I don't like the super shiny plasma glass which shows alot of glare. If I was going to buy today I would go LCD with LED back lighting. I would probably stay with Sharp, but I am sure the other brands are fine.

    Borax Uses

I bought a few boxes when I first went BBB. Never had to use it since my ph rises. I love what it does for laundry. Fluffy towels and helps with odors in gym clothes.

taekwondodo, thanks for the info. The one I ordered actually has a use counter and lets you know when the bulb is done (probably conservatively).

    UV Water Purifiers for Hiking?

Well, I am going to be a guinea pig...I ordered the steripen. Well, not really much of a guinea pig I guess as there seem to be millions of the devices out there. Plenty of positive reviews. No offence to Beez; I appreciate your advice. I did some research and basically came up with the same...

    UV Water Purifiers for Hiking?

No specifics yet. We got a couple Sierra Nevada hiking guides so we have lots of ideas. We have done several day hikes. Last weekend we did a short hike into Lake Margaret near Kirkwood. Definitely some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen(and I spent several months hiking in the...

    Laundry pH with Borax

Now that I have been indoctrinated into BBB and have Borax around the house, I have started using it for it's intended purpose: a laundry booster. I seems to make towels fluffier and help remove odors. My question is; how high does the pH get when I use Borax? I have an HE washer so there is...

    UV Water Purifiers for Hiking?

I used to do a lot of backcountry camping and was very familiar with the options (at the time) available for making safe drinking water. My girlfriend has been urging me to get me to get back into hiking, so I have been doing an inventory of my gear and starting to purchase the things I am...

Methinks 'previously frozen' may not be so smart after all

I think this was the single easiest but most important thing I learned about cooking. Meat should rest to room temp before cooking and rest again after cooking before cutting. It is amazing how much better meat comes out if you do this. I recently saw Alton Brown's episode about dry aging...

    WASP AND BEE PROBLEM

Apparently borax is the active ingredient of Terro. I have used Terro for years and it works great. I tried homemade Terro with a similar recipe to what you described and it worked, but not as well. With the homemade stuff the ants ate it a little, but not enough the take out the whole...
