    Persistent Grey “algae”

This kind of looks like mine when I had metal staining. Have you tried to rub some vitamin C tablet (Ascorbic Acid) on the stain?

    Mid Slam…

If water can get inside the steps where the sand is..... Yes, you will get algae. There won't be any circulation getting to those areas. Can you get the sand out? We filled some PVC pipes with gravel and put endcaps on both sides. 3 of those are holding down our steps. Or you can fill empty...

One year my CYA broke down over the winter and I was battling ammonia for a while. That took a lot of bleach!! You might have the same problem?

Algae doesn't seem to be going away

** The stairs I have are hollow (and were filled with sand to add weight), per the recommendations of the manufacturer. Inside the columns that make up the stairs is really the only place I can think of that I haven't brushed or looked. Do you think this could be the culprit? ** YES We weight...

Cannot raise FC above 12 whilst trying to SLAM

6 liter is not very much for a SLAM (about 1 1/2 gal), I add 1/2 gallon every day just for maintenance. (Also 40 CYA like yours, but about twice your size) Keep adding chlorine until it holds, keep it there until the water is clear & you can keep it at that level over night.

    Is there a bleach shortage?

My Wal-Mart carries the same 6% Cleaning Bleach for $2.60 per gal The color of the band has changed from blue to green, but I did not see any change in the ingredients. Was afraid that they added a lime scent or something.

Immersed hardwood causes algae problems ???

Would it be possible to replace the wood with tile that looks like wood? There are so many tile floors that look great, and it's hard to tell that it's not a hardwood floor. But I don't know if this can be used in a pool.

Help, Pretty Please?!! New Pool Owner Overhwhelmed by Mustard/Black Algae...

In order to double check your CYA result, pour the water mixture from the test tube back into your mixing bottle and repeat. Repeat with sun at your back, sun from the side, no sun, .... This way you get comfortable reading the result without waisting any chemicals.

What to do about stairs and algae.

I stopped putting bags of sand under my steps. They are "Algea Magnets" Since I have plenty of bleach bottles, I filled several of those with sand, topped off with bleach/water mixture. Perfect weight, even has a handy handle, easy to put in and take out, no more busted sand-bags, no algea...

CC 1.0 after closing.... Now What?

My pool was closed about 3 weeks ago. Leaves were falling, it rained a lot, temperature was in the 60th. I adjusted PH, shocked it, put in algecide, brought it up to (Almost) shock value again & put the cover on. (I have not drained it down) Ran out of bleach, the pump was making grinding...

    What am i doing wrong?

I do my testing at night, so the chlorine level stays at my target rate all night. If something is in the pool from day-time use, the chlorine has all night to get rid of it. Did you do an over night test? You might have something just on the verge of getting started, but with your daily...

    black algaecide (elemental copper)

The most important item with accurate pool-care, is a good test kit. Without it, you have no idea what is going on, and the pool-store will sell you whatever they want to. They would like to be helpful (in best case) but their test results are not all that precise. Go to 3 different stores...

Ready to jump in and drown in my swamp

I would! (But, don't drink the water & rinse your suits to get the chlorine out)

    Has anyone got any ideas???

Don't know what it is, but I'm sure the "Real people in the know-how & what" want a set of ALL your test results. PH, TC, FC, CC, Alk, CH, CYA, ......

Ready to jump in and drown in my swamp

Would it not make more sense to kill the algea before adding all the CYA to the pool? What is the shock level with 12 pounds of stabilizer? And what was the CYA level before?

polyquat 60 - where to buy?

All the pool stuff is very limited at the local stores. One of my Wal-Mart still had some chemicals, the other one send back their left over inventory to make room for christmas displays. Lowe's had only shock & 3" tabs left, K-Mart had a few items, Home Depot had polyquat and shock. Nothing...

WalMart is where I found it, too. Something like 17.00. K Mart had some also for 19.00. Both were the Aqua Chem brand.
